Georgy's Blog

I have a confession to make. I have a crush. Heh. Once more I must write a bit about my favorite candidate for Governor of California. Georgy Russell, a 26 year old software engineer may not have much chance of winning against the likes of Arnold and Mr. Work Around The Campaign Finance Laws That All The Other Candidates Must Abide By Bustamante, but she has something that is NOT seen in politics these days. Well, she has several things, actually.

First, shes young. At 26, she is one of the youngest running. Also, that puts her in my age bracket, and so it makes me so happy to see one of the members of my "disenfranchised" generation actually stepping up and doing something about what she believes in. And believe me, she is NOT afraid to tell it like she sees it.

Second, while I am not a democrat, I happen to agree with a lot of her platform. Now, I don't know about the legalization of marijuana, personally, BUT she has some good ideas about education and budget reform, two of California's biggest problems. Also, she has some good ideas about illegal immigration, one of the fastest growing issues in California.

Third, she is a geek. She has a blog, but who doesn't? But she has a degree in Computer Science, and loves Linus Torvalds, and knows what /dev/null is. I used to have that on my license plate, and had to explain it to everyone who happened to park near me. But she knows. She is a geek, and will make us proud.

Lastly, she is just so damned cute. Really. Most pols are old cranky white guys, or women who look like old cranky white guys (Janet Reno anyone?). Georgy is young, energetic, beautiful, and she has something that a lot of politicians lack these days. Balls. Georgy has balls. She has a big pair, and mad props to Georgy for standing up for what she believes in.

Sadly, I can not vote in the recall election. I live on the other coast, where things are not quite as ... ummm... dreamlike (and yes, this whole recall election has a surrealistic dreamlike quality to it) as California. I had considered moving to CA years ago, but never did. I should have. I coulda been a dot com millionaire. I coulda been an actor. But instead, I am just a lowly geek trudging away in the server room. I think what ultimately made me decide against living there. Now really, CA is a wonderful state, its just so damned weird. But I think Georgy could make it a place that I could live.

Now if I could just figure out how to afford a house in a place that is relatively close to work...
