ESPN has an update on the story about the High School senior who got 10 years in prison for getting a blow job. The article is very well written and honestly, this idiocy in Georgia makes my blood boil.
For history, the kid was a 17 year old senior in high school. He was a football player AND had a reported 3.2GPA. He was being recruited by a lot of schools and would have had a chance to make a good life for himself. His only mistake was getting oral sex from a 15 year old girl at a New Years party.
The sad part of this story is that if he had had full on sex with the 15 year old girl, he would have only been charged with a misdemeanor offense, gotten off and gone on with his life. However, since he had ORAL sex, he got charged with a felony.
To add salt to the wound, Georgia gave him a 10 year mandatory sentence as a sex offender with no possibility of parole, in a state where the Governor does NOT have the power to pardon him. PLUS, because of his case (which, by the way, he was tried using a law aimed at keeping 21+ year olds from having sex with 12 year olds) Georgia even CHANGED THE FUCKING LAW to protect kids from this, BUT FAILED TO MAKE IT RETROACTIVE. So even though the Georgia legislature knows the kid does NOT deserve to be in jail, or to even have this on his record, they still did not do anything for him.
And even more insulting, according to the article, while his trial was going on, an older female school teacher was convicted of having sex with an underage student. She was sentenced to 90 days.
What I want to know is what is wrong with the state of Georgia. Everyone, from the prosecutors and defense, to the judge and jury and even the Georgia State Legislature agree that the kid should never have been tried like this, and should NOT be in prison for it yet none of them is willing to fix the problem.
This miscarriage of justice makes me so mad that I want to drive down there and punch each and every one of them in the neck and ask them what the fuck they are thinking.
