I really have issues with religion. Without getting too far into it at this point, I have problems in that every organized religion has, at some point, been responsible for atrocities that we can hardly imagine. Many involved canabalism or human sacrifice, many were used as an excuse to subjegate entire nations and states, still more were used as an excuse for hate and murder.
No matter how much you try to convince me that "Your Religion" is a religion of peace, I find new reasons each day to think that your religion is little more than a means for you to act out your own hatreds and bigotry and feel good about it because it is in "The Name of God".
The modern problem religion is Islam. Since it's very beginning, Islam has been steeped in bloodshed, torture and violence. Its beginning spread was not due to people embracing the love of Allah, it was due to the existing muslim cultures conquering their neighbors and forcing them, often under torture or threat of death or worse, to convert to Islam. Their blood soaked incursions into the west was one thing that sparked off the Crusades. They were responsible in part for the fracturing and eventual downfall of the Roman empire. And now, I give you today's bit of Islamic peace and love:
Husband rips wife's eyes out after she refuses sex
"A MAN who ripped out his wife's eyes in a fit of rage was sentenced by a French court to 30 years behind bars today.
Mohamed Hadfi, 31, tore out his 23-year-old wife Samira Bari's eyes following a heated argument in their apartment in the southern French city of Nimes in July 2003 after she refused to have sex with him.
Ms Bari, who had demanded a divorce before the attack, was permanently blinded.
Hadfi, a Moroccan, initially fled to Germany. He was finally arrested and sent back to France, where he was indicted for "acts of torture and barbarity leading to a permanent disability".
Prosecutor Dominique Tourette demanded that Hadfi be sentenced to 30 years in prison, two thirds of which must be served in full, calling the defendant a "diabolic torturer".
Once his sentence is served, Hadfi will be deported and barred from ever returning to France.
His lawyer Jean-Pierre Cabanes meanwhile insisted there were extenuating circumstances.
"This is the result of a marriage that was arranged, not chosen," he said, pointing to the gulf separating his client, who came from southern Morocco, and his young wife, who had grown up in France.
Mr Cabanes begged the jury for leniency, claiming his client's action "appeared to stem from a mental illness."
Mental illness my ass. The only mental illness this asshole suffers from is the much ingrained Muslim belief of the inferiority of women and their historical treatment of them as property or animals, rather than spouses, daughters or mothers.
Just google a bit and you will find account after account of how women in Muslim culture are tortured, beaten, raped, abused and treated in ways that they don't even treat their animals.
Of course this behaviour does not represent ALL Muslims, but just as with any other group, Christians included, it is the worst of us that define us.
