There are nearly 1 million Miatas floating around this big old world of ours. With that many in existence there is a huge market for making them more our own. Going back to the days of the Hot Rods and souped up racers, the culture of car modification has progressed to this day to a point where there is something for everyone.

Some modifications are strictly performance. These include things like forced induction, suspension upgrades, roll bars, exhaust, V-6 and V-8 swaps and so forth. These mods make the sometimes anemic Miata scream with power, bringing it closer to its cousin the Shelby Cobra.

Other modifications are purely aesthetic, chaning the way the car looks to a form that pleases the owner. These vary widely from the mild to the wild. Some people put in a different shift knob, or a couple stickers. Some put entire new body kits making the Miata look like a classic Italian roadster. Some put small or not so small wings on the back. Some people are simply happy with the way the car is from the factory. Probably the biggest arguments you'll find in the automotive world are about mods that do not change the performance of the car. The groups of purists, ricers, and the centrists are always debating what is and is not a tasteful modification.
