[note] This was spewed forth on 8 October 2003 after my girl Georgy Russell lost the election to the Governator... I am sure she is still successful in whatever she is doing now. Georgy, if you are still out there and reading this, my hats still tipped to you.
Well, its finally over. The circus that was California's Recall Election is over. The winner, as I am sure you all know by now, was Arnie. The Terminator won out over all the others, and it is indeed a sad sad day for California.
Now, don't get me wrong, I like Arnold. He has made some of my favorite action packed guy movies. He was Conan, after all. And the Terminator. But now what will he do? He did a good job of becoming a candidate, and selling him self to the masses, but now what? How well will he transition himself from candidate selling himself on promises to full fledged governor who must now actually make good on those promises. I dont know, and I have only a little faith in him as a political leader. Then again, he does have family in the business, so maybe he will do well... That remains to be seen.
The beauty of our form of government is that the peopel get what they deserve. If the people elect an idiot to office, then the people get exactly what they deserved. An idiot's policies. So now that the people have elected a man with questionable moral character (do morals still exist in California, anyway??) will they get morally questionable policies? That remains to be seen.
Of all the darkness that this whole mess has made, there was one bright spot. Georgy Russell. Were it not for the recall madness, the world would not have had the honor to get to know Georgy. Beauty, Brains, and Leadership sum her up quite nicely, and yes, she really is a pretty girl. Damned hot, I would say, but then again, my opinion is moot. Georgy stands for something that not everyone remembers... that this nation was founded of the people, by the people, and for the people. Georgy's campaign was not a publicity stunt. She honestly believes in what she speaks out about. She truely believes in her ideals, and she is a great representative of my generation.
Sadly, some of Arnies overzealous fans seem to thing that anyone who is against Arnold should be "Terminated." For example, Georgy was physically assaulted at a Schwartzie rally before the election. Thats ritght, some of Arnies thugs, err, supporters, physically attacked Georgy. Thank God she made it out alive in in her usual chipper spirit.
This is what I like so much about Georgy. She's tough. She walked out of this with some bumps and bruises, and yet is still upbeat, chipper, and ready to give them hell. If I lived out there, I would seek her out. I would love to be able to sit down with Georgy and pick her brain a little about various things... Open Source, Linux, Software development, games, politics, the election, and so forth. I think it would be an amazing conversation, if I could just get over the nervousness part that I always face when meeting new people... sigh...
I am sorry that you didnt win Georgy. Had I been a CA resident, I would have voted for you. I do hope that you will consider running again in the future, and I certainly hope that you will keep up your attitude, strength, beauty, brains, and leadership. Thank you for sending us a wake up call, and for being who you are, and for standing up for your beliefs.
