Invasion of the screaming disembodied chimpanzee heads

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. This is something that some guys and work and I discussed a while back... someone has done it, and the results are fabulous!

Looking to the Stars

This weekend we did something different. I am ashamed to admit that I have lived an hour from Raleigh for 8 years now and have never really been downtown. We fixed that on Saturday.

This past weekend, the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh held it's annual Astronomy Days along with the Raleigh Astronomy Club. The event involves a lot of displays and hands on projects and a couple speakers and events that highlight astronomy, NASA, emerging technologies and other related topics. It's geared toward adults as well as kids and was a blast.  read more »

The Crossbow Project: There's no defense like a good offense

Picture of 747 with big freaking laser on its noseRemember the most quotable movie to come from the 80s? The movie that gave us a young Val Kilmer wearing a toy on his head, because if he wore it anywhere else, it would chafe? The same movie that taught Kent to "Stop Touching Yourself?"

So it went from God to Jerry to Kent to the Military, apparently. After all, what do you think a Phase Conjugate Tracking system is for, anyway?

It is, of course, for this:

A megawatt class chemical oxygen iodine laser mounted on the nose of a 747. And just like the Crossbow in the movie "Real Genius", it does hit it's targets. There have been at least 70 tests so far, but funding is starting to dry up and there is political unrest over the future of the proposed fleet of these $1.5 billion dollar aircraft.  read more »

This is me, for the most part...

Interesting to me how the pictures don't always load. But they are all being pulled from the site that had the profile thing, so what can ya say really?

Top Gear guys launch a car on their own rocket!

Holy crap this is just awesome!!! Those guys from Top Gear just rock. This video speaks for itself:

Another reason why Virginia Tech kicks ass

This is another reason why Virginia Tech kicks ass. They built a super computer created entirely out of off the shelf G5 Macs. Here's a video explaining just a little bit about this setup:

An amazing story by Isaac Asimov

So what happens when the universe finally comes to the end?

Read this story by Isaac Asimov and find out.

I found this off a Digg link today and read it at work. It's a rather short story that covers the rest of human existance and answers that one burning question that we all have. I highly recommend it to every one, especially fans of Science Fiction.

The iPod IS the Universal Entertainment Device for EVERYONE!

I found this off a link on Digg this morning... yet another amazing iPod attachment that further proves that the iPod is the universal entertainment device of the future:

Behold the OhMiBod iPod Vibrator

Image of the OhMiPod
This is the newest in iPod toys that not only vibrates, but vibrates to the beat of the music AND is set up for actual insertion AND comes with its own undergarments... you just cant beat that with a stick! Now I just need to start watching those hotties at the mall who walk around with their iPods all afternoon while shopping...  read more »

Fun with google video...

This is more for me, really, but I thought I would blog this and share it with those who dont read Digg.

THIS SITE has a list of the "hidden" categories that google uses to classify videos. You can use these categories to create your own searches by genre instead of just searching for keywords.

Pretty neat stuff, and another useful google hack. Enjoy! and check out the Mature Adult section (NSFW).

Signs that Linux is making inroads on the Desktop...

Normally, to guage whether or not a given technology is "ready for prime time" or even close, companies do surveys of random people. Sometimes these random people are IT professionals, sometimes they are end users, sometimes they are just randomly selected people. In some cases, they are just people who happened to walk up to a booth at a trade show somewhere and answered some questions.

To listen to these kinds of surveys, we would have to say that Linux is not desktop ready, despite the cries of the Linux advocates and distributions to the contrary. But I think there is a better test to see if a given thing is becomming more popular. That test is the test of "How much will a company support for their products".  read more »
