Virginia Tech

Jayhawk? What's a jayhawk?

So there I was, sitting all alone at the Pittsboro branch of the Carolina Brewery. Wings were consumed. Burger was consumed. Some special seasonal brew was enjoyed, and Virginia Tech was playing Kansas in the Orange Bowl. Or rather, they got played in the Orange Bowl.

What the hell happened? The started the game throughout the first half playing as though they forgot what football was. The Hokies finished the first half with just one TD on the board and the Jayhawks leading by 7. Halftime was livelier than VT with Z.Z. Top playing a rocking tune.  read more »

Virginia Tech Hokies 2007 ACC Champions! GO HOKIES!!!

Now that I have gotten some of my pain and bitterness out, I wanted to post something positive. Virginia Tech has beaten Boston College in Jacksonville for the 2007 ACC Championship!! The final score was 30 - 16, with tech getting the final touchdown at the 11 second mark at the end of the 4th quarter.

Those who follow college football, and Virginia Tech specifically will remember that 11 seconds is the exact time that Boston College scored their final touchdown, allowing them a victory over Tech on their last meeting, a Thursday night game at Lane Stadium.

BC had a lead in the first, but by the forth quarter, Tech ramped up their game, came back strong, and with the final interception by Vince Hall thanks to a tipped pass by the BC quarterback, The Hokies were able to win this years championship.

Now it's off to the Orange Bowl! GO HOKIES!!!

Liviu Librescu: Heroism at Virginia Tech

This story has been circulating around various news outlets regarding one of the professors at Tech who was killed Monday while trying to save the lives of his students. He escaped the Holocaust and built a career in Aerospace Engineering research and sadly lost his life as he tried to bar the door to his classroom while his students jumped out the windows to safety. This is from Fox News:

JERUSALEM — A 76-year-old professor who survived the Holocaust was shot to death while saving his students from the Virginia Tech assailant, students said.

Liviu Librescu, an internationally respected aeronautics engineer who taught at Virginia Tech for 20 years, saved the lives of several students by barricading his classroom door before he was gunned down in the massacre, according to e-mail accounts sent by students to his wife.  read more »
